I knew I wanted to make a short film about Black British Artists, so the first place my research took me was the Black Cultural Archives. The Black Cultural Archives aim to document and preserve Black British History as well as inform on the subject of race, containing artwork, informational content and historical documents regarding the lives of Black People in Britain. I came across three things that I felt could be included in my final project. A globe titled “Still We Strive”, covered in words and imagery preaching for equality and freedom, and featuring African iconography. A statue of Claudia Jones who amongst other things, founded the Notting Hill Carnival. And a statue of one of the Black Cultural Archives founders, Len Kwesi Garrison. I amde sure to photograph the building and these sculptures. Another place my research took me was the Tate Britain. Exhibitions such as "In Full Colour 1960-70", "The State We're in 2000-Now" and "Modern and Contemporary British Art: In Full Colour: 1960–1970" all contained artwork fitting the themes of Democracy, Protest and Empowerment, whilst sticking to my topic of Black British Artists.
